“That guy never sits still! Have you seen him? He’s like a lion with a bunch of pent-up energy.”
“It’s no wonder that new kid fails so much — he leaps before he looks. If he keeps that up, he’s gonna get fired before his probation period is over.”
“She is so impatient and in my face all the time! I get so nervous around her because I just can’t seem to keep up and she’s so demanding.”
Strengths: They Were Made to Move
Are there people in your life who are always on the move? Who can’t seem to slow down long enough to plan, to update, to recap? Maybe they jump in without knowing all the information. Or maybe they start a lot of projects but never quite seem to finish, abandoning them and leaving an incomplete mess in their wake. Or perhaps they are pushy, impatient and are always trying to drag you into their latest program or interest?
You may have bumped into someone strong in the StrengthsFinder talent theme of Activator.
Activator: They Call Us to Action
Those who are high in Activator are often fearless. They learn by doing, not by thinking about it or spending time developing a plan. They are the movers and shakers of the world who lead people into action. Their approach is to jump right in and see what works. They don’t think of failure as some devastating event, but rather a learning experience. Now they know what doesn’t work and off they go again, exploring other options. Once they make a decision, they have only one option: Let’s GO!
Because they move so quickly into action they create change, make new discoveries and find new ways of doing things.
It Needs to Move
My friend, Annie is an Activator. Her consulting company promotes events and makes connections for people to the resources they need. She calls them to action through her presence at many networking events and also through social media. Everyone who knows her senses that she’s “on to something” and has figured out that if they don’t get on the train, it’s leaving the station without them! She’s successful at moving people in a direction that will forward them in their business or project.
Love Your Activator
The next time you’re around someone who seems to be pushing you too quickly, ask them to help you see where they want you to go or what they’re trying to accomplish. Understand that they don’t see mistakes as failure, but as a new learning experience. If they don’t get the outcome they expected as they moved in a new direction, ask them what they learned so that you understand how they process. Having an Activator on your team and in your life and bring a fresh perspective to a stagnant project as they move others to try new and innovative experiences.
When working with someone with the talent theme of Activator, ask yourself: where do we need a change in direction?
