Consistency is one of the 34 CliftonStrengths talent themes. Nearly 12% of people who have taken the assessment have Consistency in their Top 5 report. Here are 7 ways to develop Consistency talent and turn it into a strength!
1. Claim Personal Rules
With Consistency high, you have certain internal rules that you live by. Spend some time identifying what those rules are and why they are important to you. This will help you express them more effectively to others.
2. Set Expectations
Recognize that the majority of people around you do not have the same appreciation for rules and regulations. Setting expectations that are clear and concise and explaining the reasons behind them will help others understand where you stand.
3. Polish Policies
Look around at your current environment and identify the policies and regulations that are in place. Are they fair and just? If not, what changes do you believe would make it so? Practice rewriting policies that you find inconsistent.
4. Find Causes
Where do you sense and feel injustice the most? Identify those areas and identify your most intense interests. Investigate where justice is most needed and how the inequities can be resolved. Plug into these communities and learn what’s being done to correct what you see. This will exercise your Consistency talent and help you develop it over time.
5. Advocate Justice
Get involved in those areas where you can affect the most change. Become an advocate for whatever brings you energy — single mothers, animals, justice for the _______ (fill in the blank with your interest). You can be a long-term advocate or a temporary one, depending on your lifestyle and other considerations. Pick one or two and practice striving for justice.
6. Credit Score
You notice people who are not always recognized for what they do, people who are not always seen. Bring their causes to the light. Recognize them for shining right where they are.
7. Unflex Your Muscle
True story: some may find you unbending and lacking in empathy during times when you expect the rest of us to “toe the line,” so to speak. When you sense great resistance to a rule you’re enforcing, unflex your muscle and listen for a minute. It will give others a chance to feel heard and perhaps, give you an opportunity to correct a perceived injustice.
