Discipline is one of the 34 CliftonStrengths talent themes. Only about 7% of people who have taken the assessment have Discipline in their Top 5 report. Here are 7 ways to develop Discipline talent and turn it into a strength!
1. Timeline Tricks
Timelines keep you structured, but you can expect that nearly 93% of people don’t know how to create them with the same efficiency as you. Spend time breaking projects and expectations down into timelines and share these with others.
2. Deadline Duty
Because others aren’t as tied to timelines as you, they might put a deadline in jeopardy. Take ownership of the deadline and publish reminders so that everyone can stay on track.
3. Containerize
Containers are your friend! Finding the right container for the project or items you’re trying to organize can soothe your sense of order. Get to know resources where you can quickly find or order the container, notebook or organization system to keep your life organized.
4. Sort and Label
With Discipline high, you automatically know how to create order. It’s the rest of us that disrupt your neat and tidy world. Sorting it and labeling it can help us remember where it goes. A label maker, pens with different colors, color-coded file folders can help you quickly identify things.
5. Perfectly Predictable
You love routines because they allow your environment to be more predictable. Do your research on creative calendar and organization systems and try something new. As you learn a new system, you’ll start to see better ways to coordinate and develop your Discipline talent.
6. Course Correct
Other people are going to get off track. Life happens (and you would like to say life happens more to them than it does to you!) and being able to help others correct their course is where you can put your Discipline talent to the service of others.
7. No Derail Doom
Sometimes your well ordered plans will be completely derailed and it doesn’t have to mean doom and gloom. Share your frustration with close mentors or a coach who will help you see the path to re-order your environment. There are things to learn that will help you exercise your Discipline muscle.
