The Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment identifies natural talent and ability. Less than 10% of people who take the assessment have Activator in their Top 5 talent themes. If it’s in your Top 5, here are seven ways to develop your Activator talent:
1. Share Opportunities
As an Activator, you are a mover and a shaker and are always ready to GO! Not everyone is ready to go with you unless they know where you’re going. Share the opportunities you see so you can gain the support of others.
2. Break it Down
Identify steps for other people involved in the action. They aren’t always ready to jump when you are and you can help them get moving by helping them see action items that need to happen support the opportunity you’re ready to grab hold of.
3. Ask for Input
This requires you to pause for a minute, and may very well be the most difficult thing for you to do. But asking for the input of others can actually mean “movement” for you. Plus, it gives you a chance to pause and see if there’s another opportunity you’re not seeing waiting in the wings.
4. Track Progress
Your need for action is so great that you may miss action that’s going on right in front of you. Find ways to track your progress so that you can see the movement that’s actually happening.
5. Engage Others to the Finish
Let’s admit it: you’re a great starter! But you’re not always a finisher. You get so much energy by starting things that you’re always ready to start something new. It’s wise for you to engage others into your plans so you can get things complete. Partnering with someone who’s good at finishing will be to your advantage. Be sure to appreciate them!
6. Physical Movement
You need to move, all day every day. Finding an outlet for physical movement can prove beneficial. But you might get bored with an exercise “routine.” Make sure you have lots of variety and change it up creatively to keep your energy flowing high.
7. Slow Down to Speed Up
Sometimes you really do need to slow down and breathe for a minute. Incorporating a meditation or mindfulness practice that shows you down — even for 10 or 15 minutes — will actually help you see better opportunities. Deep breathing may help, too.
