Communication: I’ve Got Something to Say!

In StrengthsFinder Themes by Rhonda Knight Boyle

“That lady from sales just doesn’t shut up. Ever. You can’t even get a word in edge-wise when she gets going. Has she never heard that ‘Silence is golden?'”

“He’s such an attention hog. He has to be the one leading the presentation and never gives anyone else a chance. I don’t know what makes him think he’s any good at it anyway.”

“How many times is she gonna tell that story? I’ll bet I’ve heard the same thing a dozen times. I wish she’d find something else to talk about.”

Strengths: Constantly Communicating

Do you know someone who just can’t seem to keep quiet? Maybe they are constantly talking about what you believe is nonsensical stuff. Or maybe they repeat stories over and over. Or maybe they exaggerate and embellish their stories so much you’re not sure what is truth and what is fiction. Perhaps you find them quite often disrupting the workplace by distracting people with tall tales of their latest adventure?

You may have encountered someone who is strong in the StrengthsFinder talent theme of Communication.

Something to say

Those strong in Communication have something to say!

Communication: Natural Storytellers

Those who are especially gifted in Communication are the natural storytellers of life. They have no problem turning an event or incident into a highly dramatic narrative. They have the innate ability to effectively put thoughts into words — and they may even take the words right out of YOUR mouth! They love metaphors and similes, and are exceptional at using just the right words to express what’s happening in the world around them. They can often captivate an audience with their tales using excellent timing with a presence that keeps those in ear shot entertained and engaged.

They may be good at writing, graphic design, or social media. Regardless of their preferred method of getting the word out, they have lots to say about whatever they are interested in or passionate about.

Presentations

Those strong in Communication are good at presentations.

They Need to be Heard

My friend and fellow coach, Andy, is strong in Communication. He is a gifted marketing genius who knows how to grow businesses through a variety of media, communicating his client’s messages. He knows just how to say the right thing succinctly to get the message across so that his clients experience greater brand awareness and increased sales. Andy also hosts a popular Strengths-based podcast, furthering the mission of helping others live in their talents and gifts.

Communicators need to be heard. They want to help others and make an impact by getting the word out about your mission, product or plan.

Love Your Communication Expert

The next time you bump into someone who just can’t seem to stop talking and telling stories, look for opportunities for them to strengthen this natural ability they have. With practice, they could sharpen their skills and help you promote your goods and services. If they understand your passion about what’s important to you, they will be quick to spread the good news to others.

Ask yourself: where do we need our stories told to move others forward in the sales process or to get the buy-in of new people into your project or program?
