Woo (Winning others Over) is one of 34 StrengthsFinder talent themes. Just over 12% of people who take the assessment have Woo in their Top 5 talent themes. If it’s in your Top 5, here are seven ways to develop your Woo talent:
1. Meet & Greet the People, EVERY Day
You are a people, people, people person! And you need to be around people — and especially new people — every, single day. Make sure you are in a role in work and life that gives you the freedom to be out and about among the people.
2. Network Strategy
Create a network strategy so that you know who people are and how they fit into your business or life. Join local groups and Meetups. Volunteer for organizations, work on committees, get active in your local Chamber of Commerce. How will each group of people help you grow your business? Who can connect you to what you need right now? How might you connect with them again later, and why?
3. Invite Others to Play
As you head out and about in the marketplace, invite others to go with you. You enjoy being with people and mostly, the more the merrier! You have a charismatic personality that pulls others along to join in the fun! Make sure you never eat alone and you always have a friendly face in every situation by inviting someone to join you.
4. Cross Network
Across your various networks, you’ll find people who need to know one another. Make it a point to introduce them — in person, if possible. You are a conduit for connections. Be generous and intentional in introducing people to the people you know.
5. Promote Others
People who know you and like you are counting on you to share their information and carry their products and services into the marketplace. Because you are “in the know” about many events and happenings in the community, they turn to you to share. Sharing what you care about and support will allow you to carry their messages with genuine authenticity.
6. Campaign for Causes
You are a natural promoter and champion of causes you love. Be a campaigner for your favorite things. If you’re passionate about puppies and other animals, then be a crusader for them. If you love the arts and ballet and museums and the like, promote their latest fundraisers and volunteer for their telethons. Become an advocate for what you believe in, for what you love, and for what you really care about.
7. Understand your Energy
People high in WOO have powerful energy that they may not recognize. People feel your presence when you walk in the room, and your nerve endings may fairly sizzle when you make a new connection. Pay attention to the reactions of the people around you. Practice mirroring others and matching their energy. Your energy may intimidate some and learning how to dial it up or dial it down can allow you to become a more powerful influencer.
